Colin Johnston | Kansas | Nominated for Post 4 | May 2024 to April 2025

Meet Colin Johnston, an experienced individual currently in the midst of a significant life transition, relocating from the familiar landscapes of Archer County, TX, to Northern KS. Growing up within the ambiance of his parents' Irish Setter kennel, Colin discovered his passion for bird hunting and dog raising at an early age.

Although initially immersed in the world of Irish Setters, a pivotal moment in grade school unveiled Colin's true calling. Amidst the hunting adventures with family, it was a breathtaking encounter with a pair of tri-colored black nose Brittany dogs that left an indelible mark. The relentless hunters showcased speed, endurance, and remarkable bird-finding skills, introducing Colin to the world of the French Brittany. This revelation set the course for a journey that now spans over 25 years.

As Colin pursued his career as a self-employed stonemason, he eventually transitioned into establishing a custom design/build hardscape company, with a specialization in crafting unique swimming pools. However, the allure of pointing dogs and the thrill of working with them on wild birds persisted.

With a string of proficient Epagneul Bretons in his care, Colin spends nearly 200 days each season chasing wild birds. He is transitioning away from his demanding hardscape business to focus more on working with pointing dog and guiding hunters in wild bird country. Colin also holds a valuable position with Grouse Country Guide Service in Upper Peninsula, MI, showcasing his expertise in guiding on North American wild birds.
